Dealing with the floods
Posted on January 18th, 2011 by Paul McArdle – 5 CommentsAs you would probably be aware, the Brisbane River broke its banks last Tuesday (11th January) and flooded a significant part of the city.
We were mostly lucky – most of our homes escaped inundation, as did our office (but only just). The following image gives you some idea of how fortunate we were:
Our office is ground floor, riverfront, which is (most of the time) an asset for us. However in this occasion it was a cause for some consternation.
We had a small amount of time on Tuesday to do what we could to protect the office and evacuate the most significant infrastructure.
In the period since that event, services to our clients have continued (mostly) as normal – based on the (double, and sometimes quadruple) redundancy that has been built into our systems over time. These services operate from other parts of Brisbane, around Australia and in different parts of the world.
For those who have technical support issues, we’re addressing these from off-site locations (hence please do contact us as you normally would, if you have issues).
The power has still not been reconnected to our office, so we have not yet been allowed back in. We hope it will not be too many more days before this is possible.
Throughout it all, we have been warmed by the many well-wishers who have expressed their concern for us, and the many clients who have been patient with us and our response times, which might be a little slower than normal.
Thank-you for your support.

Glad to see you escaped relatively unscathed from the floods.. Just took the time to read up on the blog and catch up on where things are at Global Roam!
Thanks Adrian,
It was a close shave!
